Communal Areas

Simply decorated for ultimate comfort and communal privacy in the form of four seating areas. From this height, guests can enjoy an undisturbed view of Shela, Lamu Town and Manda Island, the channels and far into the mainland and the archipelago.

Amongst the three buildings is a communal “Contemplative Scented Garden”, which has been created to give guests the ideal place to relax and embrace the energy of a traditional fragrant garden, typical in so many Arab-influenced cultures. It features three covered daybed areas - named baraza - and a Moroccan fountain. Still today, the women in Shela grow flowers to create scented corsages. Rose, Jasmine, Basil and Ylang Ylang are typical combinations for these wonderfully intoxicating brooches worn daily. Here, this multisensorial peaceful corner of paradise comes alive, with the sound of trickling water and rustling palm trees in the ocean breeze.
